Fun-D Run: Thank you for supporting our runners in last Monday’s Fund-Run. We are happy to report that we exceeded our goal of $15,000! Proceeds will be used to purchase materials for our STEAM program and to upgrade our technology resources in the classrooms and computer lab.

BOOST Scholarship Program

The State of Maryland is now accepting applications for its BOOST scholarship program for the 2018-2019 school year. This program awards scholarships to income-eligible K-12 students to be used for attendance at any eligible nonpublic school. For more in- formation and to apply, go to The application deadline is May 21, 2018.

Open House on June 4 at 2pm

Our school is holding an Open House on June 4 at 2 p.m. for families with children who will be 4 years old by September 1 for Pre-K or 5 years old by September 1 for Kindergarten. Spanish – Paloma Leon

Spanish teacherPaloma Leon is our Spanish instructor here at St. Matthias Academy. She hails from Santiago Chile and is thrilled to be teaching here with us. As well as being an accomplished journalist and market trends researcher, Paloma has taught on a college level (Brothers Advertising School in Chile) as well as homeschooling children. She’s excited to be a part of the staff here and immerse the students in a Spanish learning environment. Paloma holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Comm from Arcis University (Santiago Chile). In her spare time, Paloma writes children’s stories and loves spend time with her family.

Music – Deborah Hess

Deborah Hess is currently the music teacher at the Academy of Saint Matthias and Director of Music for the parish.  She holds a BS  in Elementary Education with minors in music and religion and a Master of Arts in Teaching.  She has taught grades PreK-8 during her career that spans more than 30 years.

In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, reading, and  spending time with her grandchildren.  She was her granddaughter’s teacher before she was her grandma.

Mrs. Ann O’hare

Mrs. Ann O’Hare is beginning her 25th year at the Academy of St. Matthias the Apostle School. She is our Director of Admissions and Librarian. Ann is a graduate of the State University of New York College at Cortland where she majored in Secondary Education with a major in Spanish. In 2015, Mrs. O’Hare received the Betty Roemmelmeyer Children’s Literature Advocate Award from Frostburg State University. Mrs. O’Hare enjoys time with her family, reading, the beach, gardening, and riding her bike.
