Middle School Students Shine in County Science Fair

Students from Saint Matthias participated in the Prince George’s Area Science Fair at Flower’s High School on Saturday, March 21, 2015.  Mrs. Damron worked with students on these projects as a part of their science classes.

The following student qualified for the fair from Saint Matthias:

Afoma Okpalannaka “Stretchy Slime” in the Chemistry category

Dorian Houssou “How to Keep an Egg from Breaking” in the Physics and Astronomy category

Syndi Averette “What is the Rate of Decomposition in Biodegradable Plastic Spoons” in the Environmental Management category

Aikira Taylor “Blood Splatter Width” in the Physics and Astronomy category

Darius Sellers “Strong Structural Foundations” in the Engineering: Materials and Bioengineering category

THE RESULTS ARE IN!  Congrats to Syndi Averette who was awarded the Conservation Award from the Izaak Walton League of America

All middle school students completed science fair projects in the second quarter and participated in the Saint Matthias science fair.  From investigation and inquiry to the scientific method and public speaking, students learned so many ways from this annual project.   For more information, see http://pgarea-sciencefair.org/
