Plans are underway for the coming school year. One of our goals is to provide more opportunities for the students to learn through field trips. We are also planning on taking grades 6-8 to Black Rock Environmental Retreat Center in November. Finally, we would like to offer more athletic and special interest clubs to the students in the 2023 school year. All these opportunities require parent volunteers and in the Archdiocese of Washington only parents who have passed the criminal background check and completed the online VIRTUS training are permitted to be with children. Recently, we were unable to take the pre-k students on a field trip to the Maryland Science Center because there were not enough VIRTUS certified parents. The next VIRTUS training, which is virtual, is on May 12 at 9:00 A.M. If your schedule permits this is a great way to earn 3 service hours. Fingerprinting is available at Renoxx ID Solutions, 9500 Annapolis Rd., Lanham, across the street from St. Matthias on the right-hand side of Seabrook Road. The cost is $61.25. However, families who pay that fee will get credit for an additional 3 hours. To begin the VIRTUS certification process:
complete the application
call to make an appointment for fingerprinting
sign up for a class at www.virtus.org
Future virtual VIRTUS training classes dates will be published in Bridges as they become available.
